Charlton slumped to another defeat on Saturday as a team (Brentford) that had struggled for goals and wins beat us 2-1 at Griffin Park.

Phil Parkinson had spoke about getting more consistency into our performances going into the match against The Bees and we did everything that we could to ensure that this wasn’t the case.

It was our first half showing that did for us really as going in 2-0 down at half time always left us with too much work to do and this first half showing wasn’t anywhere near good enough, Parkinson said: “I’m still livid about the first 45 minutes. We gave ourselves a mountain to climb by not doing the things that we’ve been doing to give us four games unbeaten.

“We weren’t tight enough and didn’t do the basics right and as a result we ended up 2-0 down at half-time, which makes it difficult when you come to a place like this.”

The second half was much better, however the damage had already been done but The Addicks boss still felt we deserved a point, adding: “In contrast I thought we deserved a point with the chances we created and the way we approached things in the second half. We rolled our sleeves up, didn’t let them turn and did all the things we’ve done in training on the pitch.

“It wasn’t as if the way Brentford played came as any surprise to us, but we just didn’t get into the game until the second half when I thought we were excellent. Unfortunately by then it’s always going to be a big ask.”
