Charlton kicked off the season with a narrow 1-0 win over Bournemouth at The Valley on Saturday afternoon.

Akpo Sodje’s goal was enough to secure The Addicks the three points against the League 1 new boys despite Jose Semedo’s sending off meaning we played for more than half an hour with 10-men.

Phil Parkinson wasn’t pleased with the sending off as he didn’t think it was one, however he was more than happy with the three points but knows we need to improve and believes we will both in terms of performance and personnel, Parkinson told BBC London 94.9: “First half, it was a good performance and we created some very good openings.

“The second half, the game swung on the sending off. I think the Bournemouth player’s reaction more than anything influenced the referee.

“I think we acquitted ourselves well as a team, we will get better as we go along and we will add to what we’ve got.”
