These are the young players who hardly get a mention on the wonderful football they play and the achievement they bring to our club. The passion and commitment they show every time they set foot on a pitch gets very little press. It don`t seem to matter whether they play at home or away, the enthusiasm to give one hundred percent is never far away.
These young men are our future. Charlton are very fortunate to have a great youth set-up. We are the envy of most clubs throughout the football League. Over many years, we produced some fine home grown players who in some cases even made the England squad which in itself is an honour and a privilege to serve the three lions.
On the anniversary game against Portsmouth we showed off two lines of hopefuls who one day hope to be part of the first team squad which is something special for every young Addick to work towards.
How many of them will actually make it in the tough football world is an open question. If we bring through a handful of graduates then we would have achieved our goal.
Talking of goals. Our academy players showed the first team how to score. Against QPR in the youth cup they beat our London rivals 3-1. One spectacular effort in the closing stages from 75 yards was scored when the goal keeper was spotted of his line. One off, sure and it might never be repeated.
The point I`m making is. It is a proven fact score goals and you win games, it not rocket science. Our first team has a problem with doing exactly that. I personally would like to see more of young players who have shown they are not afraid of getting stuck in giving a chance to shine.
Yes we have already some on the bench, but I`m referring starting them from the first whistle. We have played some low key games where our regular players have not performed, hence to our displeasure we have lost these games when they should have been a wins.
Robinson should forget the likes of Ricky Holmes who is far from his best. Kashi can be lazy, Konsa also has problems with his passing skills, and as for Josh Magennis what can I say there. He seems to have lost his way just lately. Scored an own goal that cost us at least a draw. Unlucky it might have been, but he his finding it difficult scoring for the Addicks at far too many times.
When regular players find it difficult getting results and there are players available to Robinson whether they are Youngers whose experience in first team games lacks professionalism but have proven they own capability at their level, what has Robinson to lose? Give them a chance it might change the out-come off the game. The bottom line is, don`t stick with losers just because they are there. Be firm with these wasters Robinson you might be pleasantly surprised.
