New Beginning At The Valley

After weeks of speculation, Michael Slater and Tony Jiminez were unveiled as Charlton’s new owners on Friday afternoon.

The club changed hands for a nominal sum with the new owners taking on the clubs’ debt and giving strong hints that there would be money available for Phil Parkinson to strengthen the squad.

First up for Slater and Jiminez is the New Year’s Day trip to Colchester. Bolton’s Burnden Park in 1953 was the last ground to witness a Charlton win away from The Valley on the opening day of the year, so it will be a tough start.

Lee Martin or Pawel Abbott for the injured Joe Anyinsah is likely to be the only change from the team that drew at Brighton. Hoefully the new era will get off to a winning start. Colchester last played on 11 December so the Addicks could have the edge on match sharpness.
