Lee Bowyer Gives Praise And Injury Updates

|

It’s Thursday which means it’s press conference day!

Charlton manager Lee Bowyer had some praise to give our star strikers Lyle Taylor and Karlan Grant after they both scored a great goal each last Saturday at Valley Parade to sweep aside Bradford in a 2-0 win.

Here’s what he said: “They’re both doing well. I think Lyle has got five now and Karlan three. The good thing for me is that they’ve learnt since the Accrington game, they are looking for each other and they are working in more of a partnership and we’ve got Igor on the bench as well now. He got valuable minutes the other night for the U23s so there is competition and when there is competition everybody produces and does better because they have to so they stay in the side. They both realise that and they’re doing well so I’m happy with the way things are going with them at the moment.”

I like to see that Igor is now back in contention for a spot up front he has been somewhat forgotten since his loan moves out to Sint-Truiden and Zulte Wargarem. He played 18 games at Zulte and he only managed to put away a single goal, I don’t think that is down to his work rate or his quality at putting the ball in the back of the net. I think this is down to Roland constantly rotating our players and sending them off to places where they don’t want to be. Igor did improve when he was sent out on loan once more with Sint-Truiden, but this time he managed 44 appearances scoring 13 goals which was an improvement but is it enough quality to be a consistent goal scorer in England?

Patrick Bauer was to be seen by Alistair Thrush and he came back to Bowyer during the week to give an injury update and instead of two months off the pitch, it now looks as though it will be ten weeks.

It could be worse as it is ligament damage and as we know Forster-Caskey is out with an ACL injury for the whole season. Jake was given a light of hope as the surgery on his knee went very well so it’s possible we could see him feature near the end of the season.

In Bowyer’s eyes, Krystian Bielik was expected to come back from injury this week, but he has not been able to get into training this week. Bielik will be back in training at some stage next week.
