Roger Johnston spent a brief spell with Charlton last season, however he wasn’t one of those retained at the end of last season with him released but he’s now pitched up in the Indian Super League, signed by former England U21 boss David Platt.

Johnson, who came to the Addicks following his Wolves release, has previously played for Wycombe, Cardiff, Birmingham and West Ham on loan. He’ll now play for FC Pune City in the upcoming ISL.

Platt has already signed former England international Nicky Shorey, released Rangers ‘keeper Steve Simonsen and ex-Barnsley midfielder James Bailey too.

The 32-year-old lining up alongside Premier League experienced players Didier Zokora, Tuncay Sanli and disgraced former Chelsea man Adrian Mutu, he’ll not be in bad company really will he.

Still, putting aside the money he’ll earn, surely he would have preferred being retained by a Championship side for a full season as opposed to Pune for a short time….then again these few months should net the defender an handsome sum of cash!
