Charlton saw a winning position lost in the dying minutes against Wigan on Saturday, with another loss suffered.

Going into the final minutes at the DW Stadium Charlton were looking set for a crucial one-nil win, but two goals in a couple of minutes at the death saw the Addicks suffer a 2-1 defeat to Wigan.

It is a defeat that is a bitter pill to swallow, and a game that looked to be going Charlton’s way with Chris Powell left gutted.

The Charlton boss said: ‘It’s tough to take.

‘It was such a brave performance, we put our bodies on the line.

‘Being 1-0 up for so long, and having put in a performance that was so committed and diligent, it looked like it was going to be our day.’

Powell would have expected the game to be seen out, and knows how disappointing the defeat is for all concerned but he’s called upon all to stay united as if that isn’t the case there isn’t going to be any way out of the relegation zone.

He added: ‘When it gets to that stage of the game, you’re looking to just see it out. Sadly it wasn’t to be. And it’s the way it’s going for us at the moment.

‘It hurts. My dressing room is hurting, and so are the supporters.

‘But we’ve got to remain steadfast and we’ve got to remain together, because that is the only way forward.’

Marvin Sordell had put Charlton ahead early on before Marc-Antoine Fortune and a stunning Jordi Gomez turned the game.
