Go West

The penultimate trip of the season takes the Addicks west to face a Bristol Rovers side who are fighting for survival.

It was in the televised game at the Memorial Ground last season that saw Grant Basey sustain the injury that effectively ended his Charlton career. Little has gone to plan for either Basey or the Addicks since then.

Rovers are scrapping for their lives and are a side that have tended to win or lose recently with few draws amongst their latest results.

Charlton are the kind of team a relegation threatened side want to face at this stage of the season, out-of-form with nothing to play for.

Alex Dyer took the press conference on Thursday and admitted the Addicks are looking towards next season. Dyer wants four wins from the remaining games to build momentum for the next campaign.

John Sullivan, a possible target for Powell in the summer, is set to continue in goal. Ross Worner returned to training this week and is likely to be on the bench. These will be a crucial few weeks for Worner as he tries to win a new contract.

The defence will probably be unchanged. Powell has indicated that Jon Fortune will be given the opportunity to establish himself, so Miguel Llera will be on the bench again. Both Fortune and Llera are amongst those looking for new deals.

The midfield quartet are also likely to be unchanged though Dean Parrett could be in contention for a recall. The Spurs loanee has dropped hints that his stay at The Valley could be extended and that he could return next season.

The Addicks have have failed to score in their last three matches so Powell may look to freshen things up in attack. It would be a surpise if ace poacher, Bradley Wright-Phillips, was dropped so Frank Nouble may come in for Paul Benson. Nouble is another who could be on the radar for a return next season.

Charlton may line-up like this:

Sullivan; Solly, Doherty, Fortune, Bessone; Wagstaff, Semedo, Stewart, Racon; Nouble, Wright-Phillips.

Subs: Worner, Francis, Llera, Parrett, Reid, Eccleston, Benson.

The referee will be Sam Lewis of Middlesex.

This may well be a match where the hosts greater desire is enough to see them take all three points.
