Paul Benson and Joe Anyinsah joined Charlton on Monday and Jon Fortune completed the hat-trick when he also returned to SE7.

Fortune had been training with Charlton all summer and finally sealed a short-term return to The Valley yesterday when the 29-year-old signed a contract until Christmas.

Phil Parkinson is happy to have the defender back at The Valley, however he intends to send him out on loan for a month if he can, Parkinson told The Official Website: “We’re delighted to make three signings and that Jon is one of them. He is a good character and his influence around the club is also good.

“He’s been working hard over the summer and in pre-season, and the aim over the next few months is to get him back to the player he was before.

“He’s signed a short-term deal until Christmas, and before then he could go out on loan for a month to get some quick games under his belt.

“He’s had a long period of inactivity without first-team football, but he’s only 30 and there is no reason why he can’t get back to where he was before.”
