A blistering start, a frenetic finish sandwiched a dour game at a misty Withdean last night. Painter felled Joe Amyonsah in the box after just two minutes. The ball broke to Scott Wagstaff, who clipped it into the net. Unfortunately, Darren Deadman had already blown for a penalty which Johnnie Jackson despatched. The challenge ended Anyinsah’s involvement, who was replaced by Lee Martin.

Seagulls skipper, Inigo Calderon, was dismissed for a horrible lunge on Therry Racon after just eight minutes and the Addicks looked to be in control.

However, Glenn Murray took advantage of slack marking at a free-kick to hook in the equaliser after 36 minutes. Brighton made light of their numerical disadvantage and played well.

In added on time at the end of the second half, Benson had a header cleared off the line while Radostin Kishishev drew a fine save from Elliot.

A point would have been acceptable at the start of the night but the way early events unfolded, Parkinson will view it as two points dropped.

Elsewhere, there are reports that the protracted takeover of the club will be completed on Friday.
