Ajose Uncertainty

Karl Robinson has confirmed Charlton have had enquiries about the availability of former Swindon striker Nicky Ajose.

Charlton’s summer signing wasn’t even on the bench against Millwall with this fuelling speculation he could leave having been linked with a potential loan switch to League 1 rivals Southend.

Interest being shown in Ajose might be right for the striker – who would appear open to an exit from the Valley – but it isn’t right for the Addicks at the moment with Robinson quoted by London News Online as saying.

‘There will always be speculation about the likes of Nicky Ajose when he is not playing. There has been a few clubs who have phoned me about his availability – right now I`m not sure if it is right for us.’

Robinson stressed he’s got no personal issue with the striker but others are simply ahead of him at the moment in his thought process, which is frustrating for Ajose but the boss has to look at Charlton’s best issues and offloading him might not be.

However, he also said Ajose understands the situation.

‘It might be right for him, but it has to be right for Charlton Athletic. It`s a decision I have to take. Nicky has not done anything wrong. I fancy other strikers before him at this moment in time. He understands that as well, he totally takes that on board.’

Should Robinson manage to bring in a target before the end of the month the chances are this stance would change with Ajose struggling to replicate the form he showed with Swindon at this level previously.
