What we could do with this international break could be very important for the future

|

The international break is upon us and to be honest, I actually like that there is one now after a really hard week involving three tough games against, Portsmouth, Burton Albion and Bristol Rovers. Now, most of our team get a good rest, but that’s not the only thing we could use this international break for. Imagine the boost the players would have if they came back to Sparrows Lane with Lee Bowyer and Johnnie Jackson finally signing new contracts ahead of the final push.

The atmosphere there would be boosted amazingly, and the team spirit would be higher than it is now with those two committing their future to the club. If that gets done there will be a lot more players happily signing on I think, Bowyer and Jacko have done a fantastic job this season and definitely deserve a good few years on their contracts at The Valley.

The next eight games are going to be HUGE for the club’s future as failure to gain promotion could come back on us severely as most of our players will be out of contract this summer and if we don’t gain promotion to the Championship it could spell the end for those particular players and with them all leaving on free agents it won’t pump any money back into the club and with Roland’s recent record of spending we will no hope of promotion next year unless our youth team can really step up to the mark, but even then with the current regime they will probably be sold off in January at the first sign of doing well for Charlton.

Let’s hope the team come back from this international break unscathed and ready to go for the Bradford game on the 30th I hope to see you all there!

I don’t want to be a doom monger but the point made in this article totally ignores the elephant in the room that is Duchatelet does not want Charlton to win promotion. That much is evident from Duchatelet’s failure to give Bows the green light to sign a replacement for Karlan Grant in January. If by some twist of fate did win promotion it would be a real irritation to our owner. Former Charlton Director, David White, has made the same observation in a recent article where he stated that if Charlton were to win promotion to the Championship the associated costs would rise significantly – something Duchatelet definitely doesn’t want. Promotion would increase overheads (wages, security etc) and would heighten fans expectations (funding better quality players). Duchatelet’s model is for Bows to play youth at a lower league standard and if, on the chance that any of them perform better than expected, they will be sold-off to offest operating lossess as was the case with Grant, Konsa, Gomez, Lookman etc. It’s not a sophisticated model. If we did win promotion then player signings would be funded by RD as a loan to the club thus racking up the Club’s debts. If Bows doesn’t sign a new contract then another stooge with an affiliation to the Club (sorry Jacko !) will be appointed to appease fans. There is no future for Charlton until the cancerous RD is ousted or sells up.
