What could we expect from Steve Gallen’s appointment to director?

|

Yesterday the club announced that head of recruitment and legend Steve Gallen would be appointed to the Charlton board joining Roland Duchatlelet and Richard Murray, with this great decision being made what is going to change?

Personally, I don’t think too much will change as the club is ‘still being sold’ however I know with a man like Steve in the position he is in now that can only mean good things for the players, the staff, the fans and the whole feel around the club.

Gallen understands Charlton and wants nothing but the best for us, I know now that he will have more chance of persuading Roland to spend a bit more and be willing to give our more important players contracts they deserve.

This is a huge boost in the chances of keeping Lyle Taylor. Steve will be able to get a bit more money out of our billionaire owner and put it on the wage bill which is something that really needs to be looked at as the club’s development takes a huge step forward.

Steve Gallen spoke with the club’s official website after his appointment of director and here is what he had to say.

“It’s an honour and a privilege to be appointed to the board of directors, I have really enjoyed my time at Charlton.

“Last season was incredible and winning at Wembley is something I’ll never forget. This season is a new challenge and like everyone I’ve been thrilled with how we’ve started.

“I am fortunate to work with some exceptional staff and I just want to continue doing all I can for the club, the staff and the fans, who have been great with me.”

This does beg the question, will Steve Gallen still be doing the job that has made him as popular as he is today?

With the cutbacks and all that kind of thing, I think it’s very possible we could be seeing Steve working on both of those roles which will be a big challenge for him after seeing the amount of work he put into the head of recruitment job.

Owner Roland Duchatlelet also spoke about Steve Gallen’s promotion

“Steve Gallen has done an excellent job since joining the club. The recruitment last summer, working alongside his team and with Lee Bowyer, was essential to the club’s promotion and he has done some great work again this summer.

“He has a very good relationship with Lee Bowyer, he is popular with the club’s staff and has built up a good rapport with the Charlton fans.

“He will add his football expertise and experience to the board of directors. Selling the club remains our number one priority and it is important the football doesn’t suffer in that process, with Steve on the board of directors that can only help.”

Roland is certainly doing the right thing here, I feel he is starting to get what we want now and he’s putting the right people in the right places.

So finally, after such a long time our board has now got some backbone to it and I’m really excited to see how things will change at Charlton and they will be for the better.
