Westward Bound

The long trek to English football’s most southern, as well as western, outpost tomorrow as the Addicks take on Plymouth.

Peter Reid’s side are languishing in the lower reaches of the table, mainly due to their dismal home form.

Peterborough, Brighton Hartlepool have all returned home with three points while Notts County eliminated the Pilgrims from the Carling Cup at Home Park.

Charlton’s two recent visits to Home Park have seen them get a win and a draw, so Phil Parkinson will be hopeful his team can build on the impressive midweek win at Milton Keynes.

Vital Quotes:

Plymouth Argyle Team News:

The Pilgrims also progressed in the JPT during the week and Peter Reid will hope to turn Argyle’s home form round.

Charlton Athletic Team News:

Parkinson will have one or two decisions to make before the team head west though. Rob Elliot will be in goal and with Chris Solly and Matt Fry injured, Simon Francis and Johnnie Jackson are automatic choices at full-back. Christian Dailly will be welcomed back to the heart of the defence to partner either ever present Gary Doherty or Jon Fortune. Fortune has impressed since his return and may get the nod over Doherty if the latter is still struggling with flu.

Further forward, one of Wagstaff, Martin and Benson will probably be on the bench. The manager eulogised about Pawel Abbott so it is likely he will start, the question is, will he be partnered by Benson or Martin? If Benson is the choice then Parkinson will have to decide between the trickery of Martin and the energy and goal threat of Wagstaff for the wide right berth. Wagstaff was also singled out for praise in midweek so could well be a starter. Akpo Sodje and Alan McCormack are likely to be missing with injuries.

I would have taken a point before this match so to come away with this is something I’m happy with.
