We’ll Be Back

Relegation from the Premiership was confirmed last night as Charlton failed to beat Spurs.

Charlton needed to win to have any chance of staying up, but we got off to the worst possible start after Berbatov broke clear and curled the ball home after just 7 minutes.

Charlton showed plenty of battle and fight, but we never looked likely in beating Robinson. The fans stayed proud throughout and the atmosphere was top notch, considering the circumstances.

Spurs looked like a side battling for European football and you can have no complaints, we were no where near good enough.

Jermaine Defoe came on late to add injury to insult and crashed home Spurs’ second of the night. He is someone we should be pleased we will not be facing next season as he always finds the net against us.

The game finished 2-0 to Spurs and our relegation was sealed.

After the match, Charlton manager Alan Pardew said: ‘The league table speaks for itself, there’s no politics involved, no court cases, this is where it’s at.

‘What we have to do is focus on our last league game and make sure we leave this division with pride.’

‘I’d love West Ham to stay up because there are a lot of people there I love.’

We’ll be back… mark my words.

Sorry we sent you down, i would much rather it have been one of the obvious teams that Spurs have rivalry against. Good Luck next year I’m sure you’ll bounce straight back !!

Yeah i felt a bit sorry for you guys after the game last night. Always liked Charlton and Alan Pardews a top bloke! Good luck for next yr, and thanks for darren Bent ; )

  • ParkLane67 says:

Yes – Hope you get back quickly – You belong in the EPL (unlike a certain other South London club who bribed their way into the top-flight) – Also, hopefully when you get back, it will be with a proper Manager (I haven’t forgiven Pardew for his part in ‘Lasagne Gate’! Best of Luck next year!

Thanks for your support guys. I think a season down will allow us to have a clear out and come back better and stronger. As for Bent you can have him for 20m

  • Hardy Les says:

Lets hope West Ham join you!

  • Hardy Les says:

    20m? We’ll get him for 5

  • davecook says:

No chance Hardy He’s on a 5 year deal. 5 million wouldnt even buy that contract. He will only go for big money we don’t need to sell

  • holdaway says:

We didn’t need to sell Carrick, either, but sometimes you have to, unfortunately. Shame you lot are relegated, I can think of teams I’d rather had gone down, Sheffield United being the prime example. I’m sure it won’t be too long before you’re back, mind.

  • davecook says:

Well bounce straight back up. Selling Bent could give us enough cash to buy a team capable of winning that league. As for Carrick you got over the top money for him and i reckkon Bent will be a similar scenario. Good luck with Europe

apologies for the “thats why your going down” etc chants last night. i didnt participate btw, theres no reason to kick a man while he’s down. if it were westham on the other hand…

  • guy7yug says:

    you can have murphy back!

  • davecook says:

If it was the other way round we would of sung the same. But even after two nil down we sang proudly and your fans were clapping us on their way out. Ive always liked Spurs and ill miss going to WHL next season, lets hope were back there the season after. Good luck Yidos

You guys shouldnt be going down. Especially since West Ham should have been cut points. Good luck next season Addicks! Pardew will do the job for you!

  • Shannon says:

I’d much rather it was West Ham going down than you lot. Hopefully they still will. And I’m sure you’ll come back up immediately to where you belong. The lesson to be learnt by everybody is to not mess around with managers during a season and to not take anything for granted.

  • davecook says:

Shannon we have never taken Curbs for granted. What he did for us was nothing short of spectacular! Dowie should neve rhave got the job if he had got Pards earlier we would have made it. But we learn from our mistakes and we will be back stronger.

  • Shannon says:

I must let you guys know: I watched the game on TV in South Africa, and they had Shaun Bartlett on as a special guest. At the end he was really choked up and said: “I can’t bear to see the fans like that …” He had nothing but good things to say about your club – “a solid club,” he said – and about Curbishley.

  • freddya says:

Shannon, with Pardew at the helm, they lost something like 7 or 8 games in a row(or something like that). He took West Ham down there. He deserved the sack.I just wish he had taken West ham down with him. I am glad we put the nail in his teams Coffin, only wish it had been West Ham and not Charlton. Still cant forget the disparaging things Koncheslky said after the game(purporting from Pardew).I quote “Dont forget we really hate them”. Have no sympathy for Pardew! Win and loase with grace..You Twit.
Hope you bounce straight back with a different manager..

  • davecook says:

Freddy i can see your point but under Pards we have been a much better side. He is very much a Charlton man and we have never lost that amount of games in a row while with him.

  • Frank says:

I am sure you guys will be back. In Pardew like Curbishley before him you have a guy who does things the right way. Once he has cleared out some dead or dying wood and the squad stabilises I am sure that you will be back. As a life long Spurs fan I would also say that you will be welcomed back with open arms.

  • davecook says:

Frank i totally agree and a season down could help us in the long run. It’s a chance to have that clear out find a few young gems and come back stronger. Spurs and Charlton have always had a pretty decent relationship and it’s a shame there will be less london derbys next year.
