We Got Our Left-Back

|

Charlton have been working on bringing in a left-back today and now it has finally happened. The man is 22-year-old Ben Purrington who comes in on loan from Rotherham United. He comes to us after being on-loan at AFC Wimbledon and he can’t wait to get going as we look forward to our away fixture against Shrewsbury Town as we aim to do the double over The Shrews.

Purrington has played against us this season in our 2-0 win against The Wombles and he has impressed both Lee Bowyer and head of recruitment Steve Gallen with his consistent performances and his physicality. He likes to get forward and he is meant to be good with set pieces and he keeps the ball well.

This is something we have been crying out for, having Stevenson and Solly on the left has made us a bit weak at times due to Stevenson’s lack of experience and Solly playing on his weak foot, but finally, someone with some experience and the willingness to get forward has entered The Valley.

Speaking with the club’s website Purrington had this to say “I’m delighted to get it done and, hopefully, I can help push on in this promotion campaign. I’ve played against Charlton a few times, they play good football and have some really good players so I’m looking forward to playing here. Every time I’ve played at The Valley, it’s been a great atmosphere. It’s a great pitch and a great stadium and I can’t wait to be on that side of things with the supporters behind me.”

It’s good to see that he already enjoys playing at The Valley and he is saying all the right things to win the fans over as he starts his time in SE7. He is hungry for promotion and willing to impress which is always welcome at this club, let’s just hope he can sort our problems at left-back correctly because that has been one of the most frustrating positions to fill this season, but it looks like our woes are finally over.
