“We can compete” – Lee Bowyer confident on the fight that lies ahead

|

The first-team returned to training at Sparrows Lane yesterday and they were all happy to be back with each other, obviously, it was different from a normal training session as they all had to take part in breathing tests amongst other things you wouldn’t do on a normal day at the office, but it hasn’t been like that for any job in the world as Coronavirus has plunged us all into unprecedented times.

Can you name every league position Charlton has finished in within the last 20 years? I bet you can’t but feel free to prove me wrong!

Where did Charlton finish in the 2019/20 season?

Lee Bowyer is staying optimistic and as are the players, there were many happy faces in training yesterday and looking at the pictures they were all over the moon with returning, however, they all face uncertainty as the battle to raise 400k by the end of the month to pay the wages carries on, so fingers crossed for the takeover this week!

Lee Bowyer spoke to Sky Sports outside the training ground about his team’s chances of staying up and also pushing the EFL to make the right decisions to conclude the season.

“Everybody signed up to a 46-game season. To finish it now would be wrong, especially now when we are back training, now that we are testing and everyone is spending this money, that will play a big part in it because otherwise it would all be a waste.

“The EFL have said that they want to finish the season. It is important that we do that and hopefully we will manage to finish.

“We have proven when we have got a full squad that we can compete with all the teams in this division.

“We were in a bad place at one stage but was just purely down to the numbers of injuries we had. Once we started to get a few back then we started to pick up results again.

“So we will be ready and, like I said, I believe in the squad that we have got to get us out of this.”

Bowyer always has that belief about the squad and that’s what Charlton fans love about him, he knows how to get the best out of every player we got, and with our slim pickings every man is a key player in this squad.

When injuries got hit so did the results, however, when we have a full squad we certainly can compete with everyone else and now we have a full squad I just hope to God they can get the results in because I believe they can do it, everyone else just has to believe too!
