Varney Valley Return Unlikely

Luke Varney isn’t likely to make a return to Charlton despite Phil Parkinson admitting that he did make an enquiry about bringing him back from Derby County.

Varney hasn’t enjoyed a very good time since leaving The Valley, however he didn’t really enjoy a good time on SE7 either and was another of those expensive flops that Alan Pardew brought in during his time as the boss at The Valley.

Parkinson admits that the 27-year-old is one of many players that he’s enquired about, Parkinson told The News Shopper: “Luke`s a player we have enquired about over the summer, but we`ve enquired about 30 or 40 strikers.

“We`re constantly searching and ringing managers up to see who`s available, so there`s certainly no concrete truth there.”

Arrivals, or at least and arrival in the striking department before the end of August transfer deadline do remains something that Parkinson would like and this is being worked hard on, he added: “We need a couple more players.

“Finances are very tight but myself and Richard Murray are working very hard towards getting the maximum possible out of the money we`ve got left in the budget to improve our options.”
