Varney Set For Charlton Return

After several takeover approaches for Charlton were made (and rejected) a takeover bid headed by Peter Varney will see the club come under new ownership in the not too distant future.

It was confirmed on Thursday that Richard Murray’s Baton 2010 Ltd had accepted the offer that was made them by Varney’s group, an Official Website statement said: “Baton 2010 Limited has accepted an indicative and legally binding offer for the acquisition of Baton 2010, Charlton Athletic Football Company Limited and Charlton Athletic Holdings Limited from an investor group represented by former Addicks chief executive Peter Varney.”

Varney’s group is now undergoing the necessary due diligence with this takeover expected to go through before Christmas, adding: “The investor group is undertaking full legal and financial due diligence.

“Subject to them being satisfied with the outcome, it is anticipated that completion of the acquisition will take place no later than 24 December.”

Will the return of the former chief executive bring in the new investment that Murray has repeatedly stressed was needed for The Addicks to progress though?
