Tonight Is A Big One

|

Our biggest game of the season so far is just a matter of hours away as we travel down south to Portsmouth in a match that we really could nick off Pompey. I don’t expect this to be a spectacle of football I expect this to be as rough as a game as the Bristol Rovers and Burton games, although getting the win at Fratton Park is going to be a lot harder than what the other games have been.

Last season we managed a 1-0 victory there and the fans were in full voice for that one in which without a shadow of a doubt was the best away following last season, I know it’s a Tuesday game but surely we can repeat it?

From what I have heard Toby Stevenson will be left out of this one, due to the fact that Lee Bowyer believes that physicality of this Portsmouth side will be a bit too much for him and I can honestly agree on that one, he’s only a young kid and he’s hardly massive either so I think it’s a smart choice to leave him out of this one.

Injuries still plague our team as we still have a big number of unavailable players. Darren Pratley, Lewis Page, Jake Forster-Caskey, Jamie Ward, Josh Cullen and Igor Vetokele are all out injured as Billy Clarke will not feature in this game as he played for the U23s yesterday.

I’m not going to expect much from tonight’s game for many reasons. Pompey is top of the league, December is never a good month for us and we have been struck by the manager of the month award curse. Now I know it all sounds very superstitious and absolutely ridiculous, but I have a point here just look at Coventry City manager Mark Robins, now he was doing great at Coventry all of a sudden he gets manager of the month and everything’s gone pear-shaped for them on and off the pitch. Now it’s always nice to win something, but in this case, I’d rather Lee Bowyer never got it because I can see us really tripping up. However I have faith we can get away with a 1-0 victory tonight if we play our cards right.
