Todorov And Weaver Sign

Alan Pardew has continued his re-building of the team by snapping up Bulgaria international striker Svetoslav Todorov and goalkeeper Nicky Weaver on free transfers.

Both of the players join Charlton from Premiership clubs in Pompey and Man City.

Addicks manager Alan Pardew called the double deal a fantastic bit of business for the club as Charlton prepare for next season. Speaking to www.cafc.co.uk Pard’s said: “They are two great Bosman signings for Charlton.” ‘They are two proven Premiership players who are now Championship players.

‘Nicky hasn’t had the breaks in his career that he has deserved, but this is a great opportunity for him while Svetoslav’s quality and precision, which is proven in this division, will be very important to us, especially in home games.”

The better of the two signings Todorov was the top scorer in this Division in 2002/03. Let`s hope he will find the same form again for us. The Pompey legend turned down a Premiership contract with his former club at the end of last season.

Having signed a one-year contract with the Addicks, Toddy joins Luke Varney and Chris Iwelumo in the ranks of forwards that have arrived at The Valley during the summer.

‘Leaving Portsmouth was a big decision for me but I’m looking forward to playing for Charlton,” he told www.cafc.co.uk

‘I like the way Alan Pardew’s team`s play. I saw his teams at Reading and at West Ham and liked their style.’

He added: ‘Charlton is a great club with great support and now I need to perform on the pitch. It won’t be easy because it’s a hard division and every game is important, but I’m looking forward to helping the club get back into the Premiership.”

Toddy is a decent enough signing and most fans will be pleased with him. Weaver however has a long associated bad relationship with the covered end and we will all miss giving him stick. He has signed a three year deal so we best turn love to hate fans.

Pardew has been busy and to date this summer we have now signed 8 new faces they are:

Luke Varney, Chris Iwelumo, Patrick McCarthy, Yassin Moutaouakil, Jose Semedo, Chrissy Powell (again), Svetoslav Todorov and Nicky Weaver.
