Three second-year scholars have been offered professional contracts by Chris Powell, however four others have been told they’ll have to move on.

Conor Gough, Freddie Warren and Tosan Popo have all been offered these professional terms with the unlucky ones that will have to move on being Stephen Camacho, Joe Carter, Brandon Hall and Connor Morris. This quartet will leave SE7 in the summer when their scholarships end.

Telling anyone that you don’t think they’re good enough isn’t easy and The Addicks boss didn’t enjoy doing this, however he’s offered some words of encouragement to those that have been released.

As sad as it was to tell the players to go this is something Powell had to do and he’s now looking forward to seeing what those that have stayed can do, Powell said: “That was my first experience of either signing young players or not signing them.

“We’ve signed three – goalkeeper Conor Gough, midfielder Freddie Warren and striker Tosan Popo – but sadly we’ve had to let four players go.

“It happens year in, year out, but I’m looking for those players to come back in the future. They shouldn’t let go of their dream of becoming a professional footballer, it’s just maybe not their time at present.

“We’re pleased with the lads who have signed. We’ll give them a chance to grow and become young men. But there’s always a tinge of sadness that the future of other players lies elsewhere.”
