Three points are all that separates us from the second spot, after our miraculous 3-1 win over table toppers Luton Town. With just four games left to play of this season, we have twelve valuable points to earn in the next few weeks and it could go right down to the death. We will need to win every single remaining game of the season to really be in with a good chance, with where we are right now if Luton really slips up we could still win the league which is crazy to think, how mad would that be if we actually did that.
Obviously, we shouldn’t get too ahead of ourselves, but we can achieve 91 points this season which is just ten shies of our record-breaking league winning season under Chris Powell. With how much of an impressive season that was for Charlton and just ten points less than that is still very impressive.
Looking at other teams, Sunderland and Portsmouth still have to play each other, Pompey also has to play Burton Albion which is a team most of the big boys have been slipping up against, so that should make for an interesting encounter. Barnsley are looking at a very winnable next four games unfortunately and with their quality I can’t really see them slipping up in those next matches and we do need them to at least lose one and draw one for us to go above them because right now they have a 37 goal difference whilst we sit on 24. it would be a real gut punch if the second place was decided on goal difference because unless we start winning 6-0 every game, that is unreachable.
One thing we don’t have to worry about is the playoff place, we are just one point off securing our place so once that is done which should be by Friday we have nothing to lose, we could go on the all-out attack in these next four games scoring goals left, right and center.
I do expect us to win all these next four games and after beating Luton I’m sure that will spark a breeze of confidence throughout the team, not that they didn’t have a lot of confidence already, but I’m sure after Saturday they are flying high and ready to destroy the rest of this league!
