“There’s no hiding from it we have 6 maybe 7 injuries” – Bowyer provides insight into the injuries at Charlton

|

It’s no secret that we have serious problems with injuries at the moment and now another has just joined the ever-growing list, left-back Ben Purrington has suffered a couple of injuries after coming off against Swansea City.

Purrington’s injuries range from his calf to his groin and will be out for the Fulham test at Craven Cottage (kick-off 12:30).

During his press conference this morning Bowyer let out about his side’s injury problems

“Ben Purrington is out, he’s got a couple of injuries. His calf injury that he’s been playing with, his groin has shown up something as well. He’s done so well trying to get through all these games. Five, six games he’s played with his calf, we can’t push him anymore. We’ve got this break after this game, so hopefully, he’ll be ready for the Derby game, that’s the plan.

“There is no hiding from it, we have six, maybe seven injuries. Chuks Aneke is going out there this morning, he’s got something wrong with his groin at the moment, we’re hoping that it is nothing serious, we’ll know more after training. If he lasts training then he’ll be ok for tomorrow, if he doesn’t and then he’s out that will be the seventh injury we’ve got.”

I’m hoping Ben Purrington does not become another Lewis Page because the same thing happened around the same time last season Pagey was still playing with a groin injury and after a few games he couldn’t do it anymore and that has now led to him not playing for the last year.

When Chuks Aneke came on against Leeds last weekend I thought he done really well and he can win the ball in the air, also with that he can be quite skilful in his approach and he can get past defenders using that skill. It will be in our best interest if he makes the bench tomorrow.

Whilst the injuries have stacked up I still believe we have a lot of quality in our squad and are still good enough to get a decent result at Fulham.
