The Grind Goes On

The two games a week slog continues with the JPT match at Roots Hall tonight. A wonderful match back in February saw Charlton recover from going a goal behind to snatch victory in stoppage time, with late strikes from Akpo Sodje and super sub Kyel Reid.Phil Parkinson will be hoping his side do not leave it so late tonight. Southend were relegated at the end of the campaign and their very existence was in doubt for a while. They are now a much changed outfit under new manager Paul Sturrock.Sturrock is renowned for playing a long ball game so the match is unlikely to be pleasing on the eye.The regulations call for at least six regular first teamers to start with only five substitutes  being named.Parkinson will have to decide which players to rest and which of those on the periphery he wants to get some game time into. Simon Francis and Alan McCormack, recruited from the Shrimpers in the summer, will be keen to face their old team while the game may present the ideal opportunity to reintroduce Kyel Reid to proceedings. Worner, Fortune, Llera, Martin, Abbott and Sodje are others who may be considered

I do not think two games a week is a big ask….these are fully trained proffessionals….and we have a good squad and some good youngsters who deserve a chance in the first team!
