I think all of us Charlton fans woke up this morning feeling fine am I right? Charlton held on to the lead in a controversial and passionate performance which saw us defending for most of the second half, but we managed to get the win last night. Two assists from Lyle Taylor saw Karlan Grant poke one in from the far post and then once the goal scorer Grant was taken off because of an injury he was then replaced by the next goal scorer in this game none other than Nicky Ajose.
Nicky has been out of favour with the Charlton fans and as of late he has improved his game, but now with Karlan Grant potentially being out injured and the same goes with Lyle Taylor as he was pictured in an ankle brace after last night’s game, Nicky really needs to step up his game to their level and he has got goals in him he just needs to find his form.
George Lapslie had a great game, just before Nicky Ajose’s goal Lapslie was out on the wing he was taken down and it looked as though the ball went out of play, honestly looking back on it now it did go out of play but it doesn’t matter how it’s happened and he managed to get it to Taylor to set up Ajose as scored at Fratton Park once again, he seems like scoring here. Later on, in the game, George made a great off the line clearance to keep us in the lead.
A win like this can give the whole team a lot of confidence and I know it can transpire on to the pitch and once we start playing with confidence we can beat anyone, we have a great team it may not be the best in depth, but we have got to get everyone playing to the best of their ability because that’s the only way we’re going to close the gap between us and top. With us beating Portsmouth who knows what can happen now we could even be in the title contention now that would be something.
Overall a great showing from the lads on a cold Tuesday night, they put 100% effort in and I have to say I’m really proud that we came back home with the three points and now we look ahead to AFC Wimbledon at home on Saturday!
