Scholarships have been handed to six young hopefuls by Charlton, including one to the son of former Palace chairman Mark Goldberg.

Bradley Goldberg, striker Joe Pigott, goalkeeper George Howard, midfielder Bradley Jordan, defender Semi Ajayi and striker Adebayo Azeez have all been handed scholarships by The Addicks.

Addicks assistant academy manager Steve Avory was happy for us to bring in all six, which is our highest scholarship intake for a while as all of them have the potential that the club are looking for, Avory BBC Radio Kent: ‘This is our largest intake of first year scholars for some time.

‘But we wouldn’t have taken them if we didn’t think they had potential.’

The continued development our young talent, something we’ve done well over the years must continue as producing our own players can save a lot of money in the transfer market (and we’ve not got a lot of this.) This can also, even though we want to keep our best players bring in a fair amount of money for the club as well.

  • Charlton Addickt says:

The youth are out future aren’t they, they’re essential to our growth so the more we can bring in the better. If we get 25% of these scholarship kids making it each time this will be time and effort well spent.

sorry to be on a downer, but if they are any good they will get snapped up by the bigger clubs and for precious little….however we should try because they do make a contribution to the club and it is always good to see these youngsters come good

That’s the way it’ll be though isn’t it, we’ve got to accept it.
