With former Cardiff City manager Russell Slade quitting his new position as Head of Football the other day, amid talk of negotiations with Blackburn and Charlton – with the Blackburn job no longer being up for grabs it appears Charlton have a free run at him.

The press continue to be full of speculation about the 55 year old former Leyton Orient manager, but there is very little of any real substance in terms of quotes or confirmations and we don’t even have many ‘sources close to’ references either.

Slade would be a departure from Roland Duchatelet’s usual appointments – I don’t believe he’s worked for him before or been previously sacked, so that’s a bit novel but Slade does also have a good record from his time at Leyton Orient and some will think he did a good job at Cardiff given the financial overthrows he had to deal with us, and others will say he still should’ve done better with the squad at his disposal.

I guess the main driver behind the speculation is he resigned from his current position, and few think he’d have done that had he not had something lined up.
