Earlier today Charlton Athletic announced the details of a pre season training camp in Austria, and new manager Russell Slade has given his thoughts on how he believes it will be beneficial to him and the team ahead of the League One campaign.

Charlton head to Austria in July and will face friendlies against Russian side FC Anzhi Makhachkala and Israeli side Maccabi Petah Tikva.

We head to Loipersdorf on Wednesday July 13 for a week long training camp, and of course it means Slade and the players will be in close quarters to really get to know each other.

Speaking to the Official Site he explained briefly.

‘Austria will provide an opportunity for us all to be together, working together 24/7, getting to know each other and will help towards bonding us all as a new group. It will be an invaluable week.’

The FC Anzhi game takes place on Saturday July 16, and the Maccabi game will be three days later on Tuesday July 19.

Venues, kick off times and ticket details for anybody in the area will be confirmed in due time.

In a secondary interview, Slade went on to explain.

‘Every single week in pre-season is important and it`s about getting the players through that period and getting the work into them, but at the same time, managing them along the way and getting them ready for the season. Austria will provide an opportunity for us all to be together, working together 24/7, getting to know each other and will help towards bonding us all as a new group. It will be an invaluable week. The team spirit is massively important. If you are going to move forward, then you have to have that.’
