Charlton took the three points thanks to a single strike from Akpo Sodje. It came after 21 minutes when McCormack released Reid, a constant thorn in Bournemouth’s side, who drove in to pull the ball back for Sodje to stab home.

The duo had linked similarly four minutes earlier but Sodje blazed the opportunity over.

Charlton lost Jose Semedo just past the hour mark when he was shown the red card for a reckless challnge on Symes. Racon was immediately brought on in place of Abbott to restore parity in midfield. The embryonic team showed enough promise for the fans to be cautiously optimistic about the season ahead.

If Kyel can continue this kind of performance, he is definately going to be a key player this season….shame about Semedo…the tackle did not look that bad but he is always likely to attract the referee’s attention sooner or later
