The Addicks are set to appeal against Lloyd Sam’s dismissal, after the youngster was shown red after a fiery encounter in the 2-1 victory over Hull on Wednesday evening.

Manager Alan Pardew defended Lloyd Sam, who’s reaction was totally out of character, but one that was basically warranted by all accounts, revealing immediately after the game that the Addicks will appeal against the sending off: ‘I will be appealing against it,’ Alan Pardew said in the post match press conference.

‘I’ve seen the sending off again on the video, and I don’t really know what else Lloyd Sam is supposed to do to be honest.

‘Ashbee’s tackle is late, then he kicked him twice and grabbed him around the throat.

‘And then for the ref to take the course of action whereby he sent Lloyd Sam off as the aggressor by showing him the red card first, I have a bit of an issue with that.

‘He’s not that type of character, he’s a smiley boy.’

Alan Pardew appears to be highly critical to the part played by Tigers skipper Ian Ashbee with what he has said previously, and defending Llyod Sam’s actions more he contiuned: ‘Ashbee had to be sent off but I don’t know what our boy was supposed to do.

‘He’s got to have some sort of tussle and fight back – it’s ridiculous. That’s how I view it and I’ll stand by that.’

Personally I have not seen the incident, or the brawl that followed which involved as many as 18 players, but no doubt the FA will have something to say on the matter, so I expect to hear plenty more on this issue before it is concluded, in fact the FA have confirmed that they will be investigating the matter.

What is the thought among the Addicks followers on this site on all of Alan Pardew’s thoughts? Was Ian Ashbee the main culprit and are the Addicks right to appeal Lloyd Sam’s red card, and could it be overturned? Share these feelings below so we can discuss them.

Not the side of the game you want to see at all is it, until I see the incident I cant really say to much on it, but Pardew doesn’t seem at all pleased with Ian Ashbee’s role in it though does he!

I’ve now seen it and think we have everyright to appeal, Ian Ashbee holds him down, what was Llyod Sam meant to do?

its about time that they punished referees for being so stupid, how could the ref send off sam for that???? ashbee kicked him, and then grabbed him and wrestled him, it was like the ufc…the referee should be banned for a month too…sam should be let off and given some ice cream, and ashbee should be sent to prison for 5yrs…seems fair to me.

Not even if the UFC do the hold them round the neck for so long 🙂 Good idea on the referee punishment as the thing that strikes me is the referee is coming in for a lot of stick yet somehow this is OUR fault, how can this be? If the referee was poor (as the Tigers keep telling me!) how come it is our fault he was poor?

Haha I was gonna mention UFC in the forum LOL. Isn’t it always ‘our’ fault though??? Oh Alex, you crack me up – you really do 🙂

  • Charlton Addickt says:

Sam should never have been sent off, so he should get this reversed, hopefully?

You gotta hope so eh? 🙂
