Manager Karl Robinson has played down reports linking us with Stevenage striker Matt Godden.

With reports of a potential offer going in for the player and talk of a £1.5million valuation, Robinson told News Shopper that it was pure speculation as although we’ve had the player watched, and he assumes a number of clubs have done with him scoring 21 goals in League Two last season, we haven’t made an offer for him.

‘He`s someone I think every club has looked at but no. They know we`ve liked him in the past and we`ve liked watching him play and he scores goals. That`s as far as it`s gone. There will be certain people that want to stir a transfer rumour – that only ever increases the value of the player – especially when Charlton get involved.’

He added.

‘They can add a few one hundred thousand on. We`re not a bad team to throw out there to say we are looking to bring him in. But we`ve not made an offer. No more imminent, not for £1.5million.’

With Josh Magennis injured and Lee Novak serving a suspension, it does leave us with Tony Watt as a fit recognised striker and that’s no doubt the fuel for the rumour but even then £1.5million seems steep in terms of quick coverage until Novak is back.
