Charlton Athletic manager Karl Robinson has opened up about his relationship with current owner Roland Duchatelet and stated he’d love a more personal relationship with the man.

With ongoing takeover talks with a number of parties that leaves many fans hoping our wantaway Belgian owners four years in charge of the club comes to an end, Robinson has made no secret of the fact that his hands are tied this January window with Duchatelet closing the chequebook, but many fans will certainly be interested in Robbo’s comments about the relationship he shares with him.

Speaking to News Shopper in his pre game press conference ahead of the Walsall clash this weekend, the gaffer basically implied their was a disconnect at the club and it’s not how he likes to work.

‘I haven’t spoken to him. He sent a text about four weeks ago and I got an email saying about Ricky Holmes. That`s how he manages his business, that`s how he manages me. Let me tell you, I`ve known managers that will work with chairmen that every single second of the day the chairman is in the building, on the phone, telling you to do this, do that and some people will say that`s not great. But that`s just the way it is.’

That however appears to be the way Robinson would rather work.

‘I would like more communication with an owner. I`d like to have that rapport where I can tell you everything and let you have a feel for the place, know who`s working hard for you and who`s not working hard for you, plan for the future, bring this player in, send this one out. That`s what I would like. Every manager always wants more but that`s the way it is at the moment. I haven’t had any great contact with the owner. I know Richard is speaking to him, I know head of recruitment Steve Gallen is because he`s trying to get players and that`s it.’

With takeover talks clearly affecting our January transfer window plans, despite having a good shot at promotion this year, Robinson went on to say that he’s still non the wiser about the future.

‘I still don`t know if the takeover`s going to happen in a week or five months. I heard there are people speaking to the owners but that`s all I know. We`re in the dark over that. I`ve been told that`s not my job, my job is to manage the team, and everything above me will take care of itself. I`d like to know more, obviously. But maybe with me knowing more, people know how honest I am, I`d just tell you, so that`s probably why they don’t tell me!’

At least Robinson is keeping his humour.
