Reading Set to Recall Sodje?

It looks as though we could be facing another blow in the New Year as Steve Coppell sounds as though he could recall Sam Sodje to Reading from his loan spell with us.

Sam Sodje looked as though he would stay with us for at least the remainder of this season (even if it was only in a loan capacity) but Royals boss Steve Coppell is making noises that are suggesting he might be looking to recall him and another defender he has out on loan (Alan Bennett who is at Southampton): “We’ve got an option on Sam and Alan. They could come back in January, it’s a question of seeing how they’re doing,” Steve Coppell told the Reading website.

“It’s an option to bring them back. We’re aware of the implications of the (African) Cup of Nations.

“We have to be prepared for that and the best way is to have people playing regular football.”

With the Royals losing two central defenders to the African Cup of Nations Sam Sodje looks as though he could fill a void left, which would be a blow for Alan Pardew and us as he has performed very well since he came to the Valley, and I for one expected him to stay, but he still might yet though?

I’d be very disappointed to see him go, but he’s a Reading player so if they want him back they will get him back, unless Coppell is just trying to force our hand and tempt us into trying to sign him permanently?

He’s a very fine player indeed.

Picked up an injury on Saturday though didn’t he (we’re having some bad luck with these this season aren’t we!)

We certainly are, but we’ll be okay – I think LOL 🙂
