Promotion Always the Priority

The Addicks crashed out of the Carling Cup on Tuesday after a 3-1 defeat to Luton, and obviously this disappointed me as you never want to lose do you, but you have to prioritise.

This is something that Alan Pardew had been stressing before the match with the Hatters, and was something he again pointed out after the 3-1 extra time defeat: ‘There are some financial rewards to be had but no-one is going to remember if you get knocked out of the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup but finish eighth in the league.

‘It was always going to be difficult making so many changes but they’ll learn from that.

‘I had to take the opportunity to rest the likes of Chris Powell.’

As he usually does Alan Pardew makes perfect sense, as yes it was sad to see the Addicks go out but unless we had basically won the Carling Cup few would remember where or when we went out if promotion wasn’t achieved, even a Carling Cup final win would not compensate us should the Addicks not go up.

We all wanted the Addicks to win, and a cup run would have been nice, but ten changes from the previous match, although there was still enough quality to have won, just proves the point Alan Pardew had made before the match, and did again after.

I was quite disappointed last night, but this disappointment has changed over the past few hours and I can accept this far more as you have to look at the bigger, and much more important picture don’t you.

Haha you weren’t the only one. Some going points there and it’s so true – I have to agree with what Pardew said. 🙂 Wise man indeed!!!

We was never going to win it was we… its always one of the top 5 less man u now of course. We play 8 more league games than last season so i agree were better off out of this and the FA Cup. We must get promoted, cup runs can wait.

With respect to the Carling Cup I would much rather see an FA Cup run, and even though promotion is rightly the main thing I would be much more disappointed to see a weakened side put out in this Cup, as the FA Cup is the best Cup competition in the world and commands huge respect, which it should get.

Yeah some good points there CA – as usual :p Yeah I’m hoping for a good FA Cup run too – but I hope, if we do, it doesn’t distract us from the main thing – err the league!

the Fa cup is fine, because most of the games are played at the weekends, so we can put our best team out…but lets be honest…the carling cup isnt much these days is it…the big teams put out reserve teams or even a mixture of the youth team and reserve team…we dont need it…too many games already…but the FA cup is a bit special.

Why I thank-you ever so Pardew is Sexy. And that is a very true point on the FA Cup alexsinclaire.
