Praise Heaped On Kyel Reid

Following a most impressive performance against Milton Keynes Dons in the JP Trophy on Tuesday Kyel Reid has seen praise lavished on him by Phil Parkinson.

Reid has been at the heart of most of our goals recently and had a wonderful match in front of the Sky Sports cameras as we saw off The Dons to take our place on the quarter finals and his excellent performance didn’t go unnoticed by his boss, Parkinson told The Official Website: “He’s made a lot of goals in recent weeks for us.

“He came off the bench in the game against MK Dons at home and made a goal for Paul Benson, he made one on Saturday and he’s made two tonight.

“I thought he was excellent. At half-time he was frustrated because he wasn’t getting much of the ball, but as a wide player you have got to be patient and trust the midfield players to get you the ball.

“I’m confident we have got the ability in the team to get him the ball. There is nothing worse as a midfield player than if you look up and the wide player has drifted inside and he’s not where you want him to be. Tonight he was patient, waited for his moment to take the full-back on and delivered with quality.”

After his early season problems with some niggling injuries the winger is now back to full fitness. These injury problems hampered his performance and Parkinson says that Reid would be the first to admit that this was the case.

Parkinson is looking for him to continue offering more of the same now after his recent impressive showings, adding: “If you look at it, at the start of the season he had a problem with his back going into his hamstrings and that is going back to the Orient game. And by his own admission, he wasn’t quite at his best early in the season.

“The first game we left him out was Tranmere away, when I played Waggy and Lee Martin, who both played very well.

“Now he’s back and it’s the first time he’s feeling 100 per cent. Tonight, by far, was his best performance of the season.

“Kyel is a key player because he is an old-fashioned wide player. He goes the other side and he delivers quality balls in the box.

“He’s also got a terrific shot on him. He’s not showed that side of his game this game yet – certainly his shooting ability – but he’s a real goal threat as well.”

We’ve seen how well Reid can strike the ball so if he can add some more goals of his own that’ll be a bonus, however continuing to supply the chances for others (who will hopefully take them) will be good enough for me.
