Yes I know, no one likes a smart ass “told you so” do they…

However, what did I say earlier this week?

When the rumours of Nick Pope looking likely to sign a new Charlton contract surfaced I said that I thought another loan spell away would be a good thing.

When his new three-year contract was confirmed I again echoed those thoughts.

In fact I went as far as saying that it was something that was almost essential for his future development and if it didn’t happen I’d be surprised.

That anticipated loan spell away from the Valley has come with him joining non-league outfit Aldershot.

An initial one-month loan deal has been signed, all being well he can build on his first team outings that he’s gained from a previous loan spell with Cambridge United last season.

Pope needs to play football and this move is another good step along his development path to one day become the number one with us that I suspect he can become…
