Pirates Plunder Th Points

A terrible night saw Charlton lose their fourth game of the season in front of the Sky cameras.

In the opening seconds a shocking challenge by Dominic Blizzard resulted in Grant Basey being taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg. The challenge was high and late but was deemed only to be worthy of a yellow card by Trevor Kettle.

Charlton’s defensive vulnerabilities were again exposed when Steve Ellot had time and space to convert a right wing corner.

Akpo Sodje was presented with a free header from a corner but put his effort wide. Bailey was booked for diving in first-half injury when a penalty looked to be the correct decision. If given, the referee would have had to have shown Blizzard a second yellow card.

Mooney and Reid were introduced early in the second-half but the game was effectively over when Paul Heffernan latched on to a weak back header to outpace Dailly and crash home.

Rovers’ Chris Lines was stretchered off with Mooney also having to depart after a clash of heads. Racon notched the Addicks consolation in the six added minutes.

Based on recent performances, as well as results, Charlton face a battle to stay in the play-off zone. The manager needs to decide on his best team and stick to it.
