Pre-season ended with Charlton losing 1-0 at Watford on Saturday, however Phil Parkinson wasn’t too downbeat by this.

Last weeks defeat at Barnet didn’t please The Addicks boss at all but he felt that the defeat at Vicarage Road was a much more worthwhile run out going into the new League 1 season, Parkinson told The News Shopper: “I`m pleased with today. I felt last week at Barnet wasn`t very good practise for going into league football, it was a very slow game.

“But today there was a good tempo and both sides realised there`s a week to go before the season starts and upped the ante if you like.

“It was a very competitive game and I was very pleased with the way we played – we lost the game but we had plenty of attempts on goal and if we play like that and create as much as we did today then we`ll give ourselves a great chance to win football matches.”

Now comes the real stuff!
