The race for automatic promotion is down to one spot now after Norwich City’s 1-0 win at The Valley confirmed them as one of the promoted sides, most likely Champions now.

Charlton dominated possession and controlled large spells of the game yet we couldn’t break through and you’ll not win games if you can’t score will you.

Phil Parkinson felt (rightly so) hard done by with this defeat, Parkinson told BBC London 94.9: “I thought we couldn’t have done much more to win.

“We dominated the game for long periods and did everything but put the ball in the back of the net.

“I couldn’t ask for any more from the lads.”

As previously mentioned goals make the difference these win, or ensure you don’t lose games and as we couldn’t do this and The Canaries did to prove that difference. Congratulations to them on promotion, gaining this at SE7 will be quite sweet for them as it was at The Valley last season that League 1 football was confirmed for them.

The play-off’s are looking more and more likely to be our best bet for promotion now, however the fact that none of our other automatic promotion rivals staked a claim leaves the second automatic promotion spot open but we really would have to win every game we’ve got left now and even that might not be enough.

We did everything but put the ball in the back of the net though. I know that’s the main thing, as you point out, but I thought we were unlucky to lose on Saturday.

We were unlucky but we can react one of two way now, take heart from this and offer more of the same and get the win against Exeter we must get or sulk and accept our fate and settle for the play-off’s. I know what I want us to do and hope we do this.
