Parkinson Post MK Dons

A first win in four for Charlton and others results basically going our way has seen the race for automatic promotion hot up again.

Nicky Forster’s first goal for The Addicks since his loan move (a 65th minute penalty) secured a 1-0 away win over MK Dons on Saturday. The veteran striker drew praise from Phil Parkinson, he said: “Nicky certainly knows his way around the football pitch – he won the penalty and he’s stuck it away.

“In a big game like you need someone with the courage to put the ball in the back of the net and you never doubt Nicky for courage of taking chances, whether it’s a penalty or a chance in open play.”

The Dons might find themselves a bit hard done by as a flu bug going around the club left them without as many as half a dozen players but Parkinson was happy enough with a “professional performance” shown.

However he wants this fight to go on and wants us prepared to go right down to the wire for automatic promotion if needed, adding: “We’ve won and it keeps us in a challenging position, but we’ve got to prepare ourselves mentally to go to the last minute of the last game.

“If we’re still in with a shout on the last day then that will be good news for us.”

Carlisle isn’t going to be an easy game at The Valley this afternoon but it is one that we should, and need to win. If we do we could well be back into an automatic promotion place by 5pm this evening, which if we are will leave things in our own hands again.

I’ll be happy to be in with a shout come the last match of the season, come on Parky don’t let us down. I’ve almost accept the play offs though already as we have some tough matches coming up and I’m not sure we’ll get the results we’d need?
