Charlton have become the masters of late goals this season, they’ve not always been winners or as potentially important as the one against Leeds United from Saturday though.

The Addicks’ final game at The Valley this season (unless we are confined to the play-off’s) was heading towards a 0-0 draw before the late winner that Phil Parkinson believes we deserved, Parkinson told BBC London 94.9: “We put in another good performance like we did against Norwich, but today we got the three points, which I felt were deserved.

“We wanted to be as positive as possible to keep us in the running for that second spot. We had to win – there was no point in sitting back and getting a draw, we had to go for it.

“The good thing from my point of view is when the big games have come the lads have produced performances and that bodes well if we have to go through the playoff route.”

Parkinson is right because we have often found it easier (and put in the better performances) against the bigger clubs so if it is to be the play-off’s that we’ve got to take in order to gain promotion back to The Championship then we’ve got to hold on to that positive thought.

The fact that we face Oldham Athletic on the final day of the season, and they’re down the bottom end is a worry but if we get the win then this could be enough for us to get second place still!

Anyone from Leeds in second down to Huddersfield Town in sixth though can all achieve this so it’ll be a final day battle.

It was three points that we certainly deserved, if only we could’ve got what we deserved against Norwich as well or the win against Exeter.
