Charlton slipped to another pre-season defeat as we lost at Barnet on Saturday afternoon.

The Bees beat us 1-0 at Underhill to highlight once again to Phil Parkinson that we need to strengthen. The Addicks boss also admitted that he was disappointed with the showing, however getting match time under the belts was the most important thing, Parkinson told The News Shopper: “We were sluggish today.

“It was a typical slow pre-season game and Barnet were very well organised.

“They sat back and made it difficult for us and we never really played quick enough on the ball to break them down so I am disappointed but we`ve got to learn from that.

“Obviously it was our first 90 minutes under our belts but the eleven we had out there know we can do better and play a bit quicker and more accurately and be more of a threat going forward which we probably lacked at times today.

“But there were also highlights and we know what we need to do to improve the squad in the next two weeks before the start of the season.”

Alan McCormack and Kyel Reid coming off injured was a sight that no Addicks fan wanted to see but Parkinson said that both were nothing more than precautions, adding: “McCormack just got a whack and his vision went so obviously precaution-wise we brought him off.

“Reid got a stamp on his wrist so we`ll just see how that is on the coach back but I don`t think it`ll be too bad.”

Yet again, we have failed to score. I know that I am getting boring, but it is now time for Parky and Hodgson to become best mates!
