Parkinson: ambition the key

The Terriers were left without their new boss at a press conference on Wednesday, as Parkinson rand the club at 8.15am and said that he had opted against taking the job.

Huddersfield claim Parkinson informed them Charlton made him ‘an unbelievable offer’ to remain at The Valley, but Alan Pardew’s assistant has insisted his decision is down to ambition.

‘I think any manager, coach or player will tell you the opportunity to work in the Premiership is one which is very difficult to turn down,’ Parkinson told Sky Sports News.

‘I can’t fault the Huddersfield chairman or vice chairman for the way they have conducted themselves, they have been first class.

‘I said to them yesterday afternoon that I needed longer to consider my decision. I just feel with what’s going at The Valley at the moment and to work with Alan, which I believe will be in the Premiership next year, is one I just could not turn down.

‘I spoke to them (Huddersfield) on Sunday and went away to think about the decision. I said there are a few things in the contract we were discussing and while we were doing that, I talked with Alan and the people down at Charlton and just over yesterday I just thought I could not walk away.’

Huddersfield’s assertion that his decision was motivated by money, was quickly put to bed. Parkinson said: ‘It’s not at all (about the money). I have not firmly agreed a deal to stay with Charlton yet.

‘They have spoken about a deal, but it is the ambition of testing yourself and working at the highest level.

‘Charlton is a fantastic club and they have a fantastic reputation and it is something I want to be a part of. I don’t think anyone can blame me for that.

‘Huddersfield are a big club and I am sure whoever takes over will lead them forward, but I just felt the opportunity to work at Charlton is one I could not turn down.’

That answers everything for me Phil, and it puts the moaning Huddersfield fans in place. It’s ambition and not the money.

    fair play to him

Thats a fair shout there. He obvisouly was always doubting the move. I can see why he is staying and Huddersfield arent big enough, maybe he’s holding out for a bigger club in the future. His days at smaller clubs (Hull, Colchester) are over. He said he wants to concentrate on the prem.

If his reasons are true then Hudds fans have to accept this. It’s not always money although id move jobs for more cash 🙂

Im happy with his comments, its just sour grapes from Hudds for jumping the gun.
