Pards Impressed With Morris

Charlton Athletic manager Alan Pardew felt it would have been a mistake not to take a look at Jody Morris in pre-season.

The former Chelsea midfielder is available on a free transfer after being released by Millwall at the end of last season.

Pardew is happy to give the player a chance to impress, and the midfielder is set to play all of the pre-season friendlies for the reds.

‘It would certainly be a disservice to Jody if I didn’t take a look at him,’ Pardew told the club’s official website.

‘I know he’s been training at Chelsea and wants to get his career going again, and he’s come in here and done well in his first week or so.

‘We haven’t spoken about a contract or coming to the club, it’s more a case of seeing how he gets on.

‘All the things I’ve heard about Jody came to fruition. I thought, although he’s an ex-Millwall player – which our fans didn’t appreciate that much – he showed good commitment to the pass and moved the ball well and he looks in good shape.’

Also training with Charlton is Dean Sinclair, although Pardew is unsure whether to take the midfielder, who has rejected a new deal at Barnet, and Morris on the club’s upcoming trip to Spain.

Pardew added: ‘Dean has got great energy and I like that in my team. I thought he got about the pitch and broke things up really well for us.

‘I’ve no idea if I’ll take them to Spain, I haven’t really thought about it. I just feel that I’ll review the situation as we go.’

Pardew has already stated that he wants at least 2 more new players before the season starts. One of them is Hayden Mullins who Pards wants to link up with again.

Pardew said: ‘I like Hayden. He was my first signing at West Ham and there was talk of him coming earlier this summer. We will have to see.’

We need some bottle in midfield id give him a 6 month deal to try and prove himself. Offer him a pay as you play he could do us a decent job.

  • Red Red Robin says:

Sign him up Pardew, we are to light weight in the middle. Should have kept Hughes

  • davecook says:

RRR Pardew wanted Hughes to stay he offered him a 2 year deal, but Hughes wanted a first team place and move for first team footy.

It is a gamble, he can be a bit lightweight at times strangely enough…! he didn’t do to bad for us at the Den although a few of the fans didn’t like him too much…not sure about not wanting him because he’s ex Millwall…..it should be about whether he can do a good job for you….

morris has talent, but has never lived up to the potential he showed at chelsea. probably due to his attitude. he is too fond of a night out, and on the pitch he seems to want to channel his agression towards his team mates too much.

I think this is the last chance saloon for him!

  • davecook says:

Morris hasnt joined the squad in Spain so it doesnt look like he will get a deal after all.
