From our first two games we have only managed a draw and a defeat, and now Pard’s is determined to score a victory on home soil and prevent a potential gap opening up between his side and the league leaders.

‘I’m hurting because I want to win, and I want this team to be a winning team,” said Pardew ahead of the visit of the Owls to SE7.

‘We need to put that right on Saturday.

‘I feel this will be a tough game for us because Sheffield Wednesday are coming here without a victory as well. You can imagine there might be a few fireworks because they will be as motivated as us to try to win.

‘We’ve got to make sure we keep our heads and play our football, but at the same time play a game that hurts the opposition more.

‘At the moment I don’t feel that we’re hurting teams enough, and that’s something we’ve been working on this week, albeit with two or three members of the squad missing on international duty.”

He added: ‘The Valley is our home and we must make it as difficult as we can for the opposition.

‘The wins at home are absolutely essential to promotion and that cannot be overstated.”

According to Pardew 26 wins is enough to earn promotion from this league and this is the target the boys must aim for.

‘I think we’re a bit dysfunctional at the moment, we haven’t quite got the balance right between playing some percentages that we need to play and that natural technical ability that we have. So that’s what we’re trying to adjust, and when we get that right we’re going to be a very good side.”

Charlton have shown plenty of promise in the first two matches but the side didn’t look comfortable and you could sense the players still need time to gel.

Hopefully that time will be here soon and we can start enjoying our promotion climb.

‘I don’t want to play catch-up,” Pardew asserted. ‘It’s a very difficult league as it is, and you don’t want to have to come from too far behind.

‘I expect to be in the top four and then make a run for promotion, and obviously if you’re in the top two at that time then it makes it easier, so that’s the aim.”

Come on Charlton 3 points tomorrow please, we have been patient enough.
