Pardew has said he was blown away by the noise levels after the 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur and admitted the level of support since taking charge played a big part in our 2007 revival.

He said: ‘Myself, my staff and all the players would like to thank the supporters for their incredible backing on Monday night. As a team we couldn’t have asked for any more and to receive the ovation we did when we came out after the game was amazing.

‘There is always a special atmosphere under the Valley lights and Monday was extra special in the circumstances. It’s just a shame we couldn’t get the result we needed to take the season to the final day.”

Charlton will be playing in the Championship next season but a massive season-ticket return of almost 16,500 suggests The Valley will be rocking again next year.

And Pardew added: ‘I’d like to thank each and every fan that has supported the club since I’ve been in charge; the atmosphere inside The Valley has been fantastic and the sea of red behind the goal at Blackburn Rovers last month was incredible.

‘You know how vital your backing is to us and, if we can maintain the fabulous levels of support next season, I’ve no doubt we will be pushing for an immediate return to the Premiership.”

Let`s give ourselves a pat on the back. If the players had put in as much effort as us fans we wouldn’t be in the mess we are.
