The Addicks managed to resist overtures for Darren Bent and Hermann Hreidarsson before the transfer window closed last month.

Pardew admits it was vital Charlton did not sell any of their best players if they want to avoid relegation from the Premiership.

‘It was vital for us that Darren and Hermann didn’t leave us this window because they’re both crucial players,’ said Pardew.

‘We always said that we didn’t want them to leave, but it would have been very easy for the chairman to have changed his mind about not selling.’
