I spoke to Grant Basey ahead of the match and was surprised to hear that nobody from Bristol Rovers had taken the time to pick up the phone and speak to him. Basey seemed in good spirits, let’s hope he has a speedy recovery.

Charlton won for the first in six outings in a game that was open and entertaining. Yeovil had chances and the hosts had Rob Elliot to thank for their first clean sheet since early December.

The Addicks took the lead just before the half-hour mark with a stunning goal from Kyel Reid. Bailey’s tenacity won the ball and the skipper set Reid free in his own half. As the retreating Glovers defence opened up, Reid let fly from 25 yards. The swerve seemed to deceive McCarthy as the ball thundered into his top right-hand corner.

Good composure on the right by Racon presented Mooney with the chance to wrap the game up early in the second-half.

Parkinson’s more balanced looking line-up worked well and the Valley faithful will be hoping for more of the same against Brighton on Tuesday.
