No Divine Right For Charlton

Chris Powell has told fans that Charlton have ‘no divine right to do well’.

On his icons site he said:

‘I was very happy with pre-season from a personal point of view. I`m coming back to a club I know very well, albeit in a slightly different role. Primarily I`m still a player, but I will be helping out and trying to get on the coaching ladder.’

And on the start to the season he added, ‘The Scunthorpe game has made people realise exactly where we are. We`re not a Premier League club any more. We have to respect the league we`re in. We have to earn the right to be in the top six, or in the top two, which is where we want to be. But we have to work very hard to do that. No one can say that, because you`re an ex Premier League club you have a divine right to be up there. But we feel we have enough players of quality, enough intelligent players, and enough players with the right attitude to put the club up there.’

He also says there aren’t any ‘out-and-out’ favourites for promotion but believes there are nine or ten clubs who could be in the mix for a top six finish. Naming the West Brom, Wolves, Preston, Crystal Palace, Norwich, and Southampton as possible contenders.
